Dear Parents,
It is time for reporting your son/daughter’s academic progress. We assume that academics are a priority for you and your child (ren) therefore, as a participant in the sports program, it is most important that your child realize the priority that has been set.
The first reporting period was last week, which ended on Friday, September 10th. This was established after all rosters had been received for the current sports programs. Along with this letter you will find a listing of the dates each teacher will report the GPA (grade point average) for students. Each date reflects a Friday (usually) ending the weekly reporting period. Reports of Ineligibility will come home on Monday afternoons via email by Mrs. Giunta-Mayer. Probation status has been eliminated. However, we will send you an Academic Warning letter that will state your child’s grades are satisfactory, but in danger of becoming ineligible. NO REPORT HOME MEANS THAT YOU CHILD’S PROGRESS IS SATISFACTORY.
If you receive an academic warning or ineligible letter the report must be emailed back to Mrs. Giunta-Mayer (our way of knowing you have seen the report) the following day. Additionally Mrs. Giunta-Mayer, our Athletic Director, will be calling home to confirm student’s ineligibility. Ineligibility will also be delivered via email and must be returned to Mrs. Giunta-Mayer the following day. The students will be told on Monday their status for academic warning and ineligible status. These reports are kept on file during the current school year. PLEASE NOTE THAT ELIBIBILITY HAS BEEN ELIMINATED FOR 5TH GRADE. All 5th grade teachers will be reporting student progress/concerns on a weekly basis when necessary.
Please know that each teacher and coach is concerned about the progress of your child and takes ineligibility very seriously. We are trying to develop RESPONSIBILTY and HIGH STANDARDS for our students. We know the benefits of our sports program and support the program 100%, however, we also know the benefits of a quality education, good study skills and the time needed to develop these skills.
Please discuss the policy with your child and support the policy to the fullest. Work with your child on good study habits. Review their homework. Help us work with your child to develop good study habits and responsibility for their work. Your child’s education is important to all of us.
Dr. Mary L. Kelly, Principal
